Artist Statement
The popularity of ceramics in the 70's ignited what would
eventually become my passion. My first potter's wheel had me hooked creating
my own wares.
As I developed form through trial and error, I began
learning to mix my own glazes and deal with the problems that go along with
the process. A friend and I began doing a few art festivals in 2003 that led
to my selling pottery in small shops locally.
In early 2004, I lost my vision, but was delighted when I
discovered I could still throw some forms using my feel instead of my sight.
Through their encouragement and along with the assistance of friends and
family, I've learned to work around most problems. Adaptive equipment and
electronics now replace notebooks and allow me to hear what I used to see.
Each day presents a new challenge, and I strive to expand my horizons in the
ceramic arts.
All Gary's pieces are lead and cadmium free and are
